The Introvert-Extrovert Dilemma
Confessions of an introverted extrovert in the world of loud launches, bold branding and way too much dry shampoo.
Let’s get one thing straight: I love the people I love, but I also love hiding from people… make sense?
The other day, my beautiful friend casually called me an introvert-extrovert and she is 100% right - that label kind of cracked something open for me.
Yes, I love hosting events, mentoring founders and bringing energy into a room.
But I also love leaving that room, getting into comfy clothes and going completely off-grid for 24 hours with nothing but a glass of bubbles and zero expectations.
I’ve spent over 20 years in PR, an industry built on sparkle, charisma, and visibility, while secretly identifying more with the people in the quiet corners of the room. And yet, here I am: hosting a podcast, coaching clients, launching courses, consulting brands and showing up online more than I ever imagined.
So how do I do both? How do I balance being the face of a business and still protect my peace? By winging it, throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks, that’s how!
The Glamour Myth (Spoiler: It’s Mostly Google Docs)
When I started in beauty PR, I thought I’d be strutting into launches in designer heels and casually exchanging numbers with beauty editors over champagne (which I did to a certain extent).
The majority of the time this is what I got instead:
Last-minute client edits at 1am
Hauling 20kg press bags through the rain
Smiling politely while someone asked, “Wait, what is PR again?”
Most of the job happens behind the scenes, in brainstorms, in inboxes, in chaos.
Confidence Isn’t Loud
Here’s the thing no one tells you about confidence:
It doesn’t have to be bold, brash, or buzzing with energy.
Sometimes, it looks like:
Holding your boundaries with a pushy client (nicely, of course, I am still a PR girl).
Sending that follow-up pitch even though your hands are sweating.
Saying “no” to an event because your energy is running on fumes and you need that alone time.
The beauty industry can be loud. It rewards visibility. But I’ve learned that you don’t have to perform confidence, you just have to build trust in your voice, even if you’re not the loudest in the room.
My Inner PR Girl vs. My Inner Hermit
Some days, I’m the woman commanding the room, media training a founder, or on 1:1 Lightning Calls. Other days, I’m drafting emails in my PJs.
Both are me. Both are valid.
If you're building a brand, growing your community, launching something big, or trying to “put yourself out there”, it’s okay to feel like it’s a lot. Visibility can be scary, especially when you’re used to working behind the scenes.
But remember: PR isn’t about being fake. It’s about amplifying what’s already true and finding the right way to tell your story.
Even if you do it in your slippers!
Confidence = Quiet Power + Strategic Chaos
You don’t have to be the loudest to be seen.
PR isn’t magic. It’s momentum. And momentum favours the consistent, not the flashy.
You’re allowed to be both magnetic and mellow. Show up how you need to.
So Yes, I’m an Introvert-Extrovert.
I’m the girl who can lead a room and then leave the party without saying goodbye.
I’ll pitch a product to an editor at noon, coach a founder at two and be in a dressing gown by six.
I love connection and I fiercely protect my solitude.
If you’re reading this and thinking, wait, that’s me too, welcome to the club. We’re the ones creating quietly, influencing deeply and changing the game from behind the curtain and on the stage.
Both are needed. Both are powerful.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a podcast episode to record and a bath to take right after.
